GSU Admissions Advertisement

Find out how film major Kat Szypulski discovered her niche and second home at Georgia State
Project Goal: Create an admissions advertisement for Georgia State University potential incoming students to be shown on social media and as a YouTube advertisement.

A while back, the PR & Marketing team at GSU reached out to me to ask if I would be willing to do an admissions advertisement. They had been looking for students with interesting stories and my name had come up. I happily accepted and it was a short while before the production process began.
We started production in a small room with just myself and two of the PR & Marketing team members. This was an interview process to get sound bites to use as audio for the ad. I can say that my experience with performance and being on both the giving and receiving end of interviews many times throughout my life helped with this process greatly.
Several days later, we shot the video portion of the ad. A group of other students and I mimicked classroom and casual scenarios that someone might see around campus. We also got some shots of me in locations that related to the places I talked about. We did several takes of each shot—which I'm used to as an actor, but was a little surprising for the more candid stuff.
Overall, I had a blast with this experience and I'm so happy that GSU reached out to me to be a part of it. Georgia State has posted this ad on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube and has sent the video in emails to incoming GSU freshmen. The plan is to roll this out as an advertisement targeting high schoolers who are in the process of applying for colleges.
